So I got the Gland
Oct. 1st, 2003 01:06 amOK, I maybe got on friendly terms with the humans – at least, they probably wouldn’t shoot on sight, now – it was a near thing in the first moments, though.
I’d sneaked into the Hyperion and got near enough to Faith and that Watcher to hear what was going on. Then the Wesley guy went out to get something from his bike. That put him behind me, with the Slayer in front of me.
Then it felt as if the Paranoia demon decided to stand right against my back … whispering to me… The Slayer was freaked out already, and the moment I moved she was looking straight at me – down an aimed crossbow!
So I ran into the room, yelling that it was behind me! I didn’t run straight at her, though. I flipped Wolfram and Hart’s sonic on as I came on, dropped it in front of her and jinked off sideways. It left her a clear shot if the Thesaluc turned solid, (or if English came back at the wrong moment!) The sonic started making a sound that loosed my teeth and this desert-colored thing grabbed me around the neck with its tentacles. Its skin had – like hooks.
(OK, afterwards Wesley started lecturing about implantation tips – all I’m saying is, life on earth can get frustrating, but hott that’s not!) Anyway, it probably wasn’t trying to be affectionate, right then. Faith got a grip on the one that was cutting off my air, and it quick-coiled the other way and threw her hard at the Watcher. He fell over but either he has a magic bow or it’s smart technology – it went off when it hit the ground and the bolt took the Thesulac mid-body.
It resented it. The Watcher started chanting, the demon twisted towards them and I stabbed it in mid-stride. Yelled my head off, accusing it of compound incest, at the same time – from what the Watcher told us afterwards it could have taken that as a compliment!
Anyway, it turned back at me and Faith pounced over for a sword sticking out of the Watcher’s stuff. It was all over from the moment she got it. She swung at, took most of the tentacles off, and the beast started to lose a lot of acidy blood. She took the Thesaluc’s head off, looked at me and said,
“You OK?” and then took the guy out of there. I think I wrote earlier that he walked as if he couldn’t handle himself? Well, by the time the Slayer led him out of there he was walking as though he’d handled himself a lot too much!
Being left there with the body suited me well enough. Slicing off the tentacles had almost exposed the gland, if it was where they said it was, so I nipped out and go the fridge unit and came back to finish the surgery. That was quick. The container turned out to fit it like a pouch around a baby. I thought I saw little tubes snake out to hold it as I closed the case carefully and headed out.
The humans were still outside the Hotel so I caught up with them and asked if I could go with them. I think Faith was about to tell me to go play on the freeway, but the Englishman started to get uptight about it. Then she told me to come right along. I did. I’ll be sticking to that Slayer like a high-quality band-aid until I figure out what to do next.
